british shandy
One of my favorite things to do while in England is to hang out at a pub. Across the pond, pubs have typically been more than just watering holes, but (especially in the pre-Facebook days) are important locations for social contact, swapping news, checking out friends and even the competition, and, of course, getting a drink. One drink that may seem strange to many Americans is the "British Shandy." This drink is really the predecessor of the wine cooler. (Don't judge!) But anyone -- okay, MOST anyone -- can drink a Shandy and not be thought of as an 80s or 90s school girl. The Shandy is hard to purchase Stateside and the store bought versions are usually laden with lots of preservatives and have an unpleasant aftertaste. Imagine my surprise when I realized that a Shandy was, actually, very easy to make!
Although LEMON oil is an obvious choice and comes in the premium starter kit, I find there is something particularly magical about adding CITRUS FRESH. Depending on your choice of beer, you might consider ORANGE or even LIME.
Please note that Young Living essential oils are truly the only brand that I deem safe to take internally given their Seed to Seal guarantee.
INGREDIENTS:
Light beer
CITRUS FRESH essential oil
(or LEMON oil, if preferred)
Stevia (pure) liquid or powdered
Take your preferred bar ware and grab a light beer. (Those who live in North America like COLD beer. Personally, I prefer that. But if you'd like to go old school, room temperature will do.) Once it is poured and you have a good inch or more margin between the glass rim and the beer level, take the bottle of Young Living CITRUS FRESH and add 2 drops. Next, take your Stevia and add carefully and to your preferred degree of sweetness. Stir with a metal spoon (or any spoon that is not plastic, as the oils can break down the petrochemicals in the plastic. It won't melt if you happen to stir it with a plastic spoon, but don't keep the spoon in the glass for any extended length of time.) The powdered Stevia might make your beverage foam a bit on top. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!
